PERSONAL FOLDER/PUBLIC FOLDER/UNSTRUCTURED STORAGE is a non-profit magazine-project by me, john harten. it is a magazine which contains three parts with one overall-theme per issue. the main focus of the magazine is aesthetic/emotional and visual - not content in the conventional meaning.

PERSONAL FOLDER and PUBLIC FOLDER are print magazines. UNSTRUCTURED STORAGE is an online magazine.

PERSONAL FOLDER deals only with my own point of view concerning the theme by using only my own material
PUBLIC FOLDER is arranged by myself using collected contributions, public and found material. the point of view here is universal/general and it becomes a reflection of what i did in the PERSONAL FOLDER.
UNSTRUCTURED STORAGE is an unarranged but dynamic collection of all kinds of artistic material concerning the topical theme. it is arranged randomly and openly and so it is the most experimental level of the magazine.

the interweaving of public and privacy and the interweaving of a statement made by one person with the variety of contributions arranged by the same, who has shown a part of his life in his own magazine should open up enough space for sophisticated magazine pleasure...

i started the whole thing with the PERSONAL FOLDER when i made an exchange study in london 9/2002 - 5/2003. at first i just wanted to summarise some aspects of this time, feelings and impressions and form it into something defenite for myself. then i thought such kind of reflection is perhaps something good to do regularly - so a magazine-format fits very well. it has a more incidental character than a book and it is continuous and progressive. even the names for the magazine i obtained from the IT-structure of the college in london, so there it all started...
